This book is an exceptionally comprehensive review of mudras including:
-how to use
-why to use
-when to use precaution, for example during pregnancy
-how they work
Dr Indu Arora teaches globally, and one of her biggest messages is, 'If you can breathe, you can practice yoga.' This excellent book is full of practical information for all people to use to access health and wellbeing.

best book out there on mudras....but

I give this book four stars. She is excellent in demonstrating the mudras & I have already begun to use some of them with positive results during meditation & yoga. However unless you already know sanskrit the accompanying mantras will b difficult if not impossible for you to translate & pronounce correctly. I have been practicing yoga for 10 years & have many friends that are instructors & even they are guessing. She should have a cd to go with or utube so you can hear the correct pronouciations. Give me a break did she write this for the beginner in mind? I think not & anyone that gave a five star review is either fluent in sanskrit or didn't really read the book and apply it.
Additionally she demonstrated several mudras but never discussed their benefits or use for you so why are they in this book? That's nice that they are used for Hindu rituals but what do I care if I can't use it in my everyday life for practical purposes? I really do not understand why they are in this book.
Still, the best book out there on mudras even if you need to do a little further research on translation etc.

Very Worthwhile Read....But

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it for anyone with ties or a general curiosity about the Philippines. I've been married to a Filipina for six years and thought it would be good to know more about her culture and homeland. The book served this purpose well. My only complaint is that the author allowed his opinions too much representation. The book is of course his interpretation of US/Filipino history and so one would expect it to have his personal slant but I would have been appreciative if it had been inserted less forcefully so as to not distract me from the narrative. Besides that shortcoming and that the book is a bit dated now, I thought it very worthy of four stars.

Well worth the reading.

Others have already written extensive reviews of the contents of this book, all pretty much agreeing on the details. I wanted to add my voice to the chorus to say only that the book is well worth the reading for anyone planning on having anything whatsoever to do with the Philippines, and reading even only a chapter or two will help the average person come away with a much greater understanding of what the Philippines is all about today and how it got where it is.
I would highly recommend starting at two places many casual readers usually skip - the preface and introduction - as the points laid out therein give a great overview of the final conclusions of the book, which the rest of the chapters then explain in greater detail.
Highly valuable for both business and government employees about to enter the Philippines for the first - or hundreth - time, and should be required reading for all military personnel about to embark to this region of the world. I personnaly read this book after having already visited the country nine times, and yet gained a wealth of knowledge and insight that I would never have found otherwise. Well worth the read.

If you read one book on the PI, this is the one! Explains from the time the Spanish took over to Marcos/Aquino era. Very, very accurate and compelling, especially if you like politics and/or history.

Understanding Shakespeare

For a long time I would not let my students use No Fear because I wanted them to be able to read the play in Shakespeare's words, but when I tired to discuss the plays with them, I always felt like I was the only who read the play. (I use it for Hamlet as well.) After I let them use it the first time, I was so excited to hear my students' comments on the play because they actually understood what they were reading. When they write about the play and when we discuss it, we use Shakespeare's words. We also compare the modern words and Shakespeare's words. I really like the No Fears and recommend them to people who really want to understand Shakespeare. I have taught high school and am now teaching at a university, so I know the No Fears are great on both levels.

Forgettable, but Great While it Lasts

This is definitely a classic Shakespearean comedy, complete with disguises, intrigue, love, humor, and a lot of fun. In all honesty, I am not generally a big fan of comedies, but this is definitely an example of an exception. Really, it will never be considered Shakespeare's greatest, but the plot, characters, disguise and romantic elements, and even just the thought of how it would even work on stage when it was originally performed, all contribute to a great mix of humor. As to the edition itself, I found it to be greatly helpful in understanding the action in the play. It has a layout which places each page of the play opposite a page of notes, definitions, explanations, and other things needed to understand that page more thoroughly. While I didn't always need it, I was certainly glad to have it whenever I ran into a turn of language that was unfamiliar, and I definitely appreciated the scene-by-scene summaries. Really, if you want to or need to read Shakespeare, an edition such as this is really the way to go, especially until you get more accustomed to it.

I wanted to re-read "Twelfth Night" because I'm going to see it again this weekend (this time in the Globe Theatre version with Mark Rylance's Olivia and Stephen Fry's Malvolio). This play, like most if not all of Shakespeare's masterpieces, gets better and better with every reading. This was also the first time I've read one of his plays in a no-frills free Kindle version and I really loved the experience. When I read a version of the plays with introductions and footnotes and marginalia, I feel my eye inevitably drawn to all those distractions. Reading the play quickly and with more immediacy from beginning to end without detours was much easier in this stripped-down electronic version.

Best nurse procedure book out there!

This is a must have for all graduate nurses and nurses new to medical surgical nursing. It is also great for the critical care nurse to brush up on skill we don't see everyday in the unit although it does contain information such as central lines, temporary pacemaker care, arrythmias and treatment, mechanical ventilation and basic hemodynamic monitoring. My only dislike is that the print is sooooo small. It does contain great illustrations and chart though. Overall it's worth the money since most of these basic procedures don't change much over time. I bought it because I've been out of nursing to raise three kids and am now going back to work. This is a great resource. The format is an alphabetical listing of procedures by name so it's very easy to find just what you're looking for quickly. Make sure you get the 7th edition though. It's the latest version. Happy reading to all my nursing colleagues!

A great starting point

This book is a great starting point if you are considering a cycling trip to New Zealand.
Unfortunately this book is getting old and the road conditions and amenities along the way have changed. But it is still a good timetable for figuring out how long you should think about it taking this cycle the different places in New Zealand.

Useful book, although not essential. Basically biking in NZ is easy because there are only a few roads, once you get out of the cities. The book doesn't have enough detail in it to eliminate the need for maps.... I'd say that reading blogs and getting maps would be a better use of time than getting this book, but it is nice to have a few itineraries suggested.

In February '97 me, my bike, and this book covered 1300 miles of New Zealand. I used this book extensively to plan my route by mixing & matching the routes covered in the book. obtw, in New Zealand you don't need a map, you only have a couple of roads to choose from and this book covers just about everything you need. I highly recommend it and appreciate the effort Bruce put into the book.
