To lose a loved one is painful for children as well as adults. They have
questions, feelings they do not understand, and need not only comfort but
reassurance. They want to know about Heaven, about where their loved one is
and why he or she had to go, but may fear asking a parent or guardian, not
wanting to add to their grief.

With multiple health conditions, author Kimberly Rae has had to face the
possibility that she might not be there to watch her children grow up. She
wanted to leave behind a message for them, something to hold in their hands
and let them know that, even if she was gone from sight, she still loved them.
She did not want them to remember her sick or in pain. She wrote this book to
give them a new picture, a way to think of her that would allow them to heal,
knowing she is all right.

She prays this book helps other families in the same way.
How to use this book:

Hope of heaven

My children were two and five years old when I was diagnosed with cancer. Many inspiring books were given to me and a lot of biblical truth came my way, but almost all of it was written for adults. I remember walking through a room filled with books for cancer patients, searching for something to help my children process what was happening and finding only one coloring/activity book that was really designed for older children. My oncologist did have one book "When mama wore a hat" that was really helpful for the practical aspects of my treatment, but this didn't touch the deeper fears that death could separate me from my precious children. Kimberly's new book "When I'm with Jesus" does face death head on....with grace, hope, love, and truth.

Now, I am so blessed to be cancer-free, and reading this book brings back many of the emotions of that time. It gives a beautiful voice to the truths I would want to impart to my children but couldn't express so clearly or eloquently. It is a picture of the hope of heaven. The message has a solid theology that offers security in the things we know as believers about heaven, while still leaving space for the many surprises that await us.

You don't ever WANT to deal with this subject with your kids, but if you are searching for something to help you teach and comfort young children in a close loss, this book can start the conversation.

One last note: I love the 2 reading levels of the book! Not only would that be so helpful for reading to multiple children at different ages, but also for a single child who will process (and re-process) grief differently as they reach each developmental stage. So, the fantastic format of this book would open up new levels of understanding & encouragement to children as they grow and mature.

I wish this book had been written thirty years ago...

In our thirty years of ministry, we have met so many children who have lost someone they loved - mothers, fathers, grandparents, and siblings. In addition, on a personal level,we, too, have experienced the death of people that we loved, including the death of our 2 1/2 month old daughter in 1986. Each of our five children grieved in some way after their baby sister went to heaven. The oldest three were very young when Christy died, and each of them missed her very much. Our oldest son was five years old when baby Christy died, and he worked through his grief with us during that first year following her death. Our three year old daughter and fifteen month old son began to understand a little more over the next couple of years and each worked through their loss as they began to understand more about what had happened. Our youngest two were born after Christy went to be with Jesus, so they didn't even know her personally. Yet they each grieved around the age of four or five, when they began to understand a little about death. They were sad because they "missed her and never got to see her". They were concerned wondering if she "hurt" when she was sick. It was very hard for them to understand why she had to die. This book would have been so helpful in explaining that Christy was really a person and that she was their big sister who loved them from heaven. We wanted them to understand that Christy was getting to grow up with Jesus and that she wasn't sick anymore, and that they would see her again one day. This book will be in our library as we share our hope in Christ with children who have loved ones in heaven.

Everyone is going to die. But how do you explain death to a child, especially when the young child's parent, sibling, or loved one has died or is terminally ill?

Most mothers and father fear what will happen to their children when they die--especially when the children are young. How will their children understand? How can a parent help their child to understand?

This book will give terminally ill family members/parents a tool to help their children understand death in a Biblical way before the parent dies. This book will also be effective in helping children cope after the loved-one dies.

The words in WHEN I'M WITH JESUS will comfort and help create conversations between parents and young children.

Tsukasa Fushimi (born 1981) is a Japanese author of light novels. He made his debut in 2006 with the novel series Jūsanbanme no Alice. This was followed in 2008 by his well-known novel series Oreimo, which spawned a media franchise encompassing multiple manga, anime and video game adaptations. In 2013, Fushimi began writing his novel series Ero Manga Sense. The author lives in Tokoyo, Japan.

More Oreimo for the fans.

The second volume of the Kuroneko Oreimo spin-off, it follows the "True Path" that the first Anime season showed in 4 OVA episodes. The manga goes into greater detail regarding Kuroneko ( Real name Rori Goku ) and her attending the same school as Kyousuke as the two become involved in the Game Creation Club and slowly get to know each other.

Starred Review. Tatsumi's brief, disturbing stories, originally published in 1969, have a tone somewhere between contemporary short fiction and EC Comics' old "shock" comics. Each hinges on some kind of prurient or sexually twisted situation: a man's bedridden lover turns out to be a physically mutated sex slave; an office worker puts on his girlfriend's makeup and clothes and has an affair with another woman; a man who disinfects telephones for a living calls a prostitute, but can't think of anything to do but pull out his disinfection kit. Produced over a short period of time, the stories are variations on a theme of social maladjustment. Tatsumi draws marvelously evocative settings, and his stories flow with dreamlike ambiguity, speeding toward the inevitable tragedies at their ends, but his characters appear practically identical. This reinforces both the repetitive nature of his themes and Tatsumi's view of the common man's continuing struggle in a merciless world of menial jobs, impotence and abortions. Tatsumi is known as the "grandfather of Japanese alternative comics," and this is the first in a proposed series of authorized English-language collections of his work. His work anticipates American alternative comics, making it clear why American cartoonist Adrian Tomine, who edited this collection, was attracted to the work. (Sept.)

*Starred Review* Tatsumi has drawn groundbreaking comics in Japan since the 1950s, but Americans have had few opportunities to view his work. As the first in a proposed Tatsumi series edited by admiring alternative comics artist Adrian Tomaine, this volume of stories from 1969 starts to make amends. Tatsumi works in a powerfully straightforward manner that eschews manga's quirks in favor of naturalism. Combining the Japanese words for drama and art, he called his style gekiga to set it apart from the more commercially pitched anga. The latter shows much about Japanese culture, but gekigareveals the nation's psyche as Tatsumi depicts men living lives of quiet frustration--powerless, often sexually impotent, confined by social propriety. In one story, a factory worker mangles himself to collect an insurance payment so his girlfriend can buy a nightclub. Another portrays an auto mechanic fixated on a glamorous TV star. Others feature a sewer cleaner, a porn-film projectionist, and a "push man" who crams commuters into packed subway cars. It took American comics decades to begin tackling subject matter approaching the gravity of Tatsumi's. These 35-year-old stories are the precursors of today's serious graphic novels. Gordon Flagg

"What a revelation this book is. What a wonderful surprise!

I have no idea what pulled me to this book when I first heard about it, but I am glad it did. I have not, as many others have not, heard of Tatsumi and that is a shame. It is good to know, however, there is a plan to release more volumes of work (please hurry). Sixteen stories comprise the first volume and all are powerful. Angst ridden? You don't know the meaning of angst until you read this book. There is very little hope in this with tales of unrequited love, murder, abortion, prostitution and transvestism, peeping toms and suicide. The central character is always a man in some state of despair. The tales, though, some quite wordless, and the drawings, beautifully rendered, pull the reader quickly from one to the next. Despite being a potential downer (and some may cursorily say misogynistic), the stories are actually darkly comic and well told. I paid full price for this book because I didn't want to wait for it - I'm very happy I did. Buy this book!

"I myself am a very normal person"

"I myself am a very normal person. Please do not interpret these stories as representative of the author's personality." This plea to the reader appears on the very last page of this book, and upon coming across it, most readers will probably think the disclaimer belongs at the front of the book. Because by the end of these 16 short graphic stories, which represent a "best of" anthology of Tatsumi's work from 1969 (the plan is to continue releasing a "best of" for each year), it's very hard not to suspect the author of having some major dysfunctions with both society at large, and especially with women. According to the introduction by Adrian Tomine, Tatsumi is considered "the grandfather of Japanese alternative comics", and coined the term "gekiga" to distinguish naturalistic, more adult comics from the popular "manga" fare for kids. The material in this collection certainly falls into the "gekiga" category, as it encompasses very adult material. Not "adult" in the sexual sense (although there is sexual explicit material), but in the more metaphysical sense that is brought on by feelings of urban alienation

The stories are set in late '60s Japan, in what is presumably Tokyo, and Tatsumi writes that he found inspiration in newspaper human interest stories and the police blotter. If that's the case, it seems he was drawn to tragic stories about men who just couldn't cope with their lot. In every story, the protagonist is a kind-faced everyman figure (visually, he is the same in almost every story), who works some kind of menial job either on his own or with men who don't respect him. He either lives alone or at home with a wife or girlfriend who either works as a bar hostess or openly cheats on him. Stripped of his manhood on all fronts, he either lashes out in violence, takes cold-blooded revenge, or commits suicide. Indeed, it's impossible not to notice the misogyny that pervades the stories -- literally every woman is either wanton, scheming, drunk, greedy, or somehow tainted. The urban setting, dominant theme of alienation, outbursts of violence and disgust, and sexual disgust are perhaps best compared to the film "Taxi Driver" in terms of tone, and yet are ones that seem to crop up over and over in modern Japanese fiction and film.

in contrast to the gritty subject matter, the artwork tends to be very clean and crisp, and as with everything published by Drawn & Quarterly, the book is beautifully produced. The panels haven't simply been "flopped" from the original Japanese layout, but have been rearranged for Western formatting, and the results are spectacular. Fans of Adrian Tomine's work will appreciate both the visual style, and the use of silence throughout the stories. However, this is a book that should be read not only by comics aficionados, but by anyone interested in the literature of modern Japan. It will be interesting to see if Tatsumi's stories change tone and theme over time, and I look forward to the 1970 volume.

Great storytelling and glimpses of the Japanese society

[[VIDEOID:36118851]]Before I read the book, I had no idea who Yoshihiro Tatsumi is. He has been called "the grandfather of Japanese alternative comics" and he certainly deserves it.

The Push Man and Other Stories is a collection of short stories previously published in Japanese, now translated and reformatted for the western audience by Adrain Tomine.

In each story, Yoshihiro Tatsumi looks at a different facet of Japanese society. The main character is always a man filled with restrained angst, going about their daily jobs, ending with a solemn note. Every tale is filled with some form of sexuality -- sex, abortion, prostitution, etc.

In the story "The Push Man", we're introduced to the pusher, whose job is to get commuters into packed trains by pushing them in. One day, he helped a lady whose clothes were torn from the pushing. They spent the night together and she invited him to her place the next day. The story ends with her sisters pushing each other away to get him. In "Telescope", a disabled guy committed suicide after being paid to watch someone else have sex. In "Test Tube", a sperm donor can't stop thinking about his recipient and eventually forced himself onto her. You can see that there are no happy endings here.

The storytelling is masterly. Every story is told in a darkly comic style, short dialogues and cleanly laid out panels. Even without text, the stories will be easy to understand. Yoshihiro Tatsumi has a way of dissecting his characters, providing a very raw look at their hard and unforgiving life.

The 16 stories are short. I like short if it means leaving the reader wanting more* at the end.

It's highly recommended but certainly not for everyone.

My Favorite Takeaways

First, just think, there are about 180 pages dedicated to designing web forms.
That's crazy! Forms are often overlooked or given very little attention in the
overall design, yet they are typically the most vital element in any web page or
app.

This book covers everything you need to know to build the most effective forms
that correctly capture the user information you require. If you create forms of
any kind, read this book. I know you will learn something.

Here are a few of my favorite takeaways:

* To instill trust, place a noticeable link to your privacy policy near forms
that require identifiable information. Also, provide an explanation of why
you're asking for such info either adjacent to the form or the form field.

* Three rules to influence response rates:

1. Establish trust

- make it easy to contact someone if the user needs help
- the form and required fields must have clear purpose
- must be professionally designed
- keep advertising away from the form
- 100% functional; no defects or typographical errors

2. Reduce social costs

- provide progress indicators
- keep forms short and easy
- minimize requests for sensitive or personal info
- design questions that users can answer
- user error messages that respect the effort the user is making
- preserve user's info to reduce double entry in case of a mistake

3. Increase rewards

- clearly explain or outline the benefits of properly completing a form

* Create personas to assist in form design decisions. Have people not directly
involved in the form design help you create "stories" of people who will
likely complete your forms.

* Form field defaults should favor the user. For example, uncheck the email
subscription checkbox; it's probably borderline spam anyway.

* If you ask for information from the physical world, tell or show the user
exactly where to find it. For example, if a product serial number is required,
show a picture indicating the location of the serial number on the actual
product.

* Turn negative questions into positive ones. Do not use double negatives,
negative words, or negative phrasing because they make questions harder to
understand. For example, "Is the information we have wrong?" should be written
as "Is the information we have correct?"

Required reading for designers and marketers

As a marketing consultant who has embraced web usability in the last 2 years, I've been on a UX reading tear, having read probably over 20 books from the likes of Nielsen, Krug, Redish and others. I refer back to Forms That Work more than any of them.

Web forms are such an underappreciated part of the user experience. Almost every site has at least one, it often has as much impact on conversion rates and customer satisfaction as any part of the site, and it typically has major usability problems. But it usually gets a fraction of the attention that flashy features and functionality get.

When designers and marketers do focus on it, they have trouble reaching consensus on the best UX -- more so than with other areas in my experience. Marketers often see forms as a primarily about capturing data for analysis and for follow-up emails, leading them to ask for far too much info. Meanwhile designers often try to spice up this boring area by breaking conventions, leading to confusion and frustration.

Forms That Work offers the perfect antidote to this situation. The authors have many years of experience watching users interact with all types of forms, and they present their research and advice in highly practical ways. The book is well-written and well-structured, so is easy to read in sequence the first time or two. But for me its biggest value is as a reference source. Every couple weeks, I face a question around forms -- from progress bars to error messages to secondary buttons. Whatever it is, I always find it in the Forms That Work index, and within minutes I'm on much stronger ground.

Some aspects of forms have changed since the book came out a few years ago. But the vast majority has stayed the same, as has human behavior. Forms That Work will be highly relevant for years to come. It should be required reading for designers, developers, marketers, and anyone else who might influence a web form.

Great book with valuable insight, statistics, data, and UCD reasoning.

I think Jessica Enders' review really captures the essentials but I'll add a few of my thoughts.

I bought this book at the same time I purchased Luke Wroblewski's Web Form Design: Filling in the Blanks. His book is great but the limitations are there in the title. Luke W. has a great knowledge of design from the Web onwards. Many people forget that forms have been around much longer than the web and that UX design itself has decades of history predating the web. I can't say how clear it is to me that so many of the popular web-gurus out there don't know their roots.

Well, Carline Jarrett has been dealing with form usability since paper was the only way to go. The breadth of her knowledge lends itself to a much deeper understanding and offers far more insight into how users work with forms than any other book I've read. It's clear she has the expertise that someone who has only ever worked with web forms is lacking and as another reviewer put it this book is, "[the] missing chapters on forms from every other design book you've read." Forms That Work teaches you how to think about form usability from the ground up where Luke W's book reads more like a best practices compendium.

I'm also a huge advocate of accessibility and Forms That Work offers important information about keeping and making forms usable by everyone, another aspect that's missing from the other books out there.

Informative Introduction

This book helps explain a lot of the basics of how extrusion dies are optimized for superior cooling and flow performance. It gets into a good level of detail but is not written with too high a required knowledge going into the book. It is useful for any entry level engineer or tool designer in understanding more about the process. I purchased this as I work in the plastics industry and desired to get a more in depth mathematical understanding in order to solve some real extrusion problems, such as warping during cool.

The book starts with basics of material properties and how they interact with extrusion. It then goes into basic flow equations, not much more than you probably got in college, but then expands it to topics such as Melt Fracture. Then it goes into the CFD, or flow field, part when they talk about optimizing shape of the die to improve the velocity profile.

The meat of this book is in its discussion of various die designs for monoextrusion and coextrusion of thermoplastics and elastomers. There is then a short 10 page section on heating of the die.

The ending is on basics of calibration, operation, mechanical design, and maintaining of dies.

Secrets of the Soils will open your eyes to unseen worlds.

First published in 1989 by Harpers and Row, "Secrets of the Soil" not only breathed new life into an increasingly solipsistic U.S. Biodynamic movement, it also provided the initial pulse for the growing interest among American alternative agriculturists in the use of "subtle energies" to boost the productivity of their farms and gardens by enhancing soil fertility while providing new means of working with pests and plant diseases. Radionics, Cosmiculture, Chelation, Vortices, Agnihotra, are all covered in Secrets of the Soil with unerring insight and enough depth to keep the home researcher motivated for a lifetime. As if this were not enough, all the information about fringe science, the Towers of Power, the Cosmic Pipes, the Dowsing and the "Wishing," is sandwiched between four thick chapters and two fat appendices that cover Biodynamic agriculture in about as straight forward and practical of a fashion as you will find anywhere. If you work with plants or eat food and don't own this book, you better buy it now! It will give you something to think about, or, in other words: thought for food!

THIS BOOK COVERS ANGLES THAT AN OLD AGRONOMY STUDENT DIDN'T EXPECT, WITHOUT CROSSING THE TOO MUCH INFORMATION LINE. HISTORY, KNOWLEDGE, AND WISDOM FROM MANY ASPECTS REVEILING SECRETS OF THE SOIL BEYOND EXPECTATIONS.
