Not a traditional design textbook, but it works.

Rather than being a traditional textbook that covers the design of an aircraft from initial mission planning to detail design, Airship Technology is a collection of individually written chapters that cover in total the same breadth of material. This causes the tone to change from chapter to chapter due to the different authors, but each author is clearly an expert on the subject matter in the chapter and all write quite lucidly. Some understanding of fabric design and terminology (such as "gores") is assumed, but if you go into it blind like I did there are more than enough context clues to aid you. This is one of the few textbooks I've actually read cover-to-cover.

NOTE: It does emphasize blimp design rather than zeppelin design; this is because for most applications airships currently do blimps are the better choice. It does have some data on zeppelins, however.

This is a fascinating book about airship technology. It has lots of technical data and practical advice. It shows examples of contemporary airships and it even has a chapter on future developments of airship technology.

Must Have for any Airship Enthusiast or Engineer

The vast majority of books on airship design date back to the first half of the 20th Century. Airship Technology, edited by Gabriel Khoury, is the only recent technical/engineering manual on airship design. Each chapter is written by a recognized expert on that specific area of airship design and operation. The book covers all the bases, including materials, aerostatics, ground handling, piloting, and even solar power.

Airship Technology is a must have for any airship enthusiast or aeronautical engineer. When it came out in 1999, I paid more than US$100 for the book -- worth every penny. As of November 2004, the book sells for US$75 -- an honest bargain. Make sure to add "Airship Technology" to your library!

Prof. Dr. Thomas Risse is director of the Center for Transnational Relations, Foreign and Se-curity Policy at the Otto Suhr Institute of Political Science at the Freie Universität Berlin. Born in 1955, he received his PhD. from the University of Frankfurt in 1987. From 1997-2001, he was Joint Chair of International Relations at the European University Institute's Ro-bert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies and the Department of Social and Political Sci-ences in Florence, Italy. His previous teaching and research appointments include the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt, the University of Konstanz, Germany, as well as Cornell and Yale Universities, and the University of Wyoming. He has also held visiting professorships at Stanford and Harvard Universities. Thomas Risse is co-ordinator of the Research Center 700 "Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood", funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). He is founding director of the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies, and has been chair of the Executive Committee of the Joint Master program in International Relations of the Freie Universität Berlin, the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, and the University of Potsdam. He has been asso-ciate editor of the journal International Organization. In 2003, he received the Max Planck Research Prize for International Cooperation. Their approach begins with fostering self-awareness and then uses this awareness to motivate change that the organization needs. Action coaching involves a series of steps and some specific coaching tools. While this book provides a fairly well-organized and well-written introduction to the concept, it covers familiar training and development ground. If you are a beginner in this area, the repetition of steps and processes will come in handy. Experienced trainers will find the coaching tools quite familiar and the assessment questions fairly obvious. We develop and support people because our organization needs their current compliment of skills enhanced with other skills or it needs to rehabilitate a counterproductive approach. Although much of their work is not necesarily new, I believe they have packaged it to be more usable and accesible. I would highly recommend this book for someone looking for a chance to evaluate their own coaching skills, develop an improvement action plan and maintain high levels of motivation to improve their performance. Who know, maybe even transform their performance!

The need to cope with change, inside and outside of the organization, and the employee's need for personal development should be brought into alignment, say these founding partners of CDR International, a consulting firm that specializes in executive coaching. Action coaching is a process that fosters self-awareness, and guides personal development so that an employee's personal development goals are congruent with the goals of the organization.

Action coaching differs from traditional coaching in three ways:

1. The employee's relationship to the coach is a business relationship rather than a therapist-patient relationship.

2. Action coaches tailor their strategies to the individual and the strategies are geared towards performance breakthroughs, where traditional coaching tends to be unfocused and generalized.

3. Where traditional coaching focuses on personal insights, Action coaching translates insights into actions with organizational results.

There are eight steps to implementing Action coaching in your organization:

1. Determine what needs to happen and in what context.

2. Establish trust and mutual expectations. Make sure the employee understands the purpose of the coaching as well as the steps in the process.

3. Contract with the employee for results. There should be a formal written and oral agreement with the employee about the purpose of the coaching and specific goals to achieve.

4. Collect and communicate feedback.

5. Translate talk into action. Use your feedback to enact change. Review and revise goals when needed. Make sure the goals are still in alignment with the business needs of the organization. Set deadlines.

6. Support the employee in taking big steps.

7. Foster reflection about actions.

8. Evaluate both individual and organizational progress.

Cons -
It's a general business plan outline, something that you can look up online pretty easily.
Didn't see anything about cannabis while scrolling through the pages (not much information on it if any)

I just made a business plan for a college level class and this book wasn't able to teach me anything new that I hadn't been able to google, on making a generic business plan. It could be helpful for someone who doesn't know where to start. I didn't find it worth anything over a normal internet search.
